Frecuently Asked Questions

Pythoness

Why did you record in black and White?

The natural shadows the camera picks up from the black and white option, gives a melancholic

air to the general ambience of the film.

Was the hand held camera a “fortunate mistake” or, a premediated idea?

Our intention was to create the sensation of a person that is being chased by her own destiny.

The camera is witnessing the tragedy of Ursula’s life. While Ursula is being persecuted, the

audience is with her all the time.

Is there any particular reason per which you felt the impulse of

making a mystery/melancholic film? Why going away from the

happy ending?

After I understood the film industry I knew I wasn’t going for a massive production based on

revenue. Filmmaking should be purely driven by the desire to make art, not a business based

production.  So having that clear I can do whatever I want because I am free from the interest

of gaining money. I don’t believe in the regular structure when storytelling. There are several

ways of building a story and the point of view of sadness is very poetical and really touching for

the human soul.

How was the filming process with actors from theater?

They were perfect. Their natural timidity with the camera was really giving a different

performance.  After some time they started to get used to the rhythm and to enjoy the

multiple chances that the film language gives. Their body expression went really well with the

art direction and the black and white.

Is it true that all the locations were illegally used?

Well, that is true but only the public spaces. We did have permission of the Interiors. We were

not a big crew so it was done fast and I feel it went well with the intention of the film. Destiny

is following us.

How was the editing process?

The editor is a musician himself so you can really see how the edition really goes well with the

music, because they were built together with the same stylistic purpose. Dave Merson Hess

and you can listen to his experimental music at www.davemersonh.net.

How was the experience working with art based crew?

It gives a certain air of freedom, but sometimes I felt needed more technical experience.
